Usage

Usage

Pull-Cord Switch — an emergency-stop switch with a cable run the full length of the conveyor within reach of operators. Pulling it anywhere cuts power instantly, so a worker who sees a hazard or gets caught can stop the line before injury. Mandatory on every manned conveyor.

Technical overview

Safety devices protect personnel and equipment around the conveyor. HBXM supplies pull-cord switches, belt sway and speed monitors, and emergency stops that integrate with your plant shutdown logic.

What safety devices does a conveyor need?

At minimum, pull-cord emergency stop along the length, plus belt sway and speed switches that trip the drive on fault.

How does a pull-cord switch work?

A tensioned cable runs the conveyor length; pulling it anywhere latches the switch and cuts power to the drive through your shutdown logic.

Are these devices explosion-proof?

We offer Ex d and Ex ib rated units for coal, grain and other hazardous areas; specify your zone when ordering.

Can they connect to an existing PLC?

Yes. Our switches output dry contacts or 4-20 mA signals that drop into standard PLC and relay shutdown circuits.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How far apart should pull-cord switches be installed?

On both sides of the conveyor, so the cord is reachable from anywhere along the walkway — typically every 20–30 m on long conveyors, and always at the head, tail and any access door.

Latching or non-latching?

Latching (manual reset) for emergency stops, so the conveyor cannot be restarted until the person who pulled the cord has reset it. Non-latching is only for non-safety signalling.

Do the switches need certified contacts?

For a genuine emergency stop, yes — dual-channel, positively-opening contacts that fail safe. Send us the plant's standard and we will match the contact arrangement.
