Spiral Idler — an idler with a helical (screw) surface that, as it turns, throws sticky carryback off the return belt and self-cleans. It is the fix for return strands that cake up with wet clay or coal in wash-down and high-moisture plants.

Technical overview
Idlers are the rotating rollers that support the conveyor belt and the bulk load traveling on it. HBXM idlers cover belt widths up to 2400 mm and trough angles of 20 deg, 35 deg or 45 deg, with multi-labyrinth sealed bearings built for continuous duty in dust, moisture and fine powder.

A self-aligning idler automatically corrects belt mistracking, reducing edge wear, spillage and unplanned downtime.

Why does a spiral profile help?
The helical surface keeps pushing material sideways off the roller, so nothing wraps and builds up, and the same bias helps drag the belt back toward centre.
Can spiral idlers be used on the return strand?
Yes — they are most often used on the return strand, where wrapping is worst, but they also work in carrying sets for sticky material.
Do they wear the belt faster?
The contact area is lower than a plain roller, but correctly sized spiral rolls do not measurably shorten belt life; they prevent the build-up that does.
