Coal handling plant (CHP)
The conveyor network that moves coal from wagon tippler or stockyard to the boiler bunkers of a power station.
Stockyard stacker-reclaimer
Rail- or boom-mounted machine that stockpiles and reclaims bulk material; its discharge feeds the yard conveyor.
Shiploader
Boom conveyor that loads bulk carriers at a terminal, usually fed by a yard conveyor through a transfer tower.
In-plant conveyor
Short, often multi-stage conveyor inside a plant, with frequent transfers and tight headroom.
Decline conveyor
Downhill conveyor where gravity drives the belt. The motor must brake, and a backstop plus a second brake are mandatory.
Incline conveyor
Uphill conveyor. Maximum angle depends on the material's angle of repose and whether the load is surcharged.
Curved (horizontal) conveyor
Conveyor that turns in plan view, using tilted idlers and a raised outer edge to steer the belt around the curve.
Sandwich belt conveyor
Two belts press the material between them, allowing very steep or vertical lifts without a pocket belt.
Pipe conveyor
Belt rolled into a closed tube that carries material around curves and keeps dust and weather out.
Belt feeder
Short, heavy-duty conveyor under a hopper that meters material onto the main conveyor at a controlled rate.
Screw conveyor
Screw in a trough that moves fine or pasty material short distances; a competing technology to belt feeders.
Bucket elevator
Vertical chain or belt carrying buckets; the usual alternative to a steep sandwich belt for large vertical lifts.
