Conveyor stringer
Longitudinal beam that carries the idler frames and the belt load.
Conveyor frame
Fabricated structure that aligns and supports the pulleys and idlers.
Trestle (bent)
Vertical support frame holding the conveyor above ground.
Idler frame spacing
Distance between idler support frames along the stringer.
Loading station
Section where material is fed onto the belt, with chute, skirts and impact support.
Discharge station
Section where the belt discharges, usually at the head pulley.
Drive station
Structure and enclosure carrying the drive unit and its controls.
Tail station
Structure at the tail holding the tail pulley and take-up.
Walkway
Side walkway for inspection and maintenance, with handrails.
Handrail
Guard rail along walkways and platforms for personnel safety.
Cover / rain hood
Roof over the belt protecting material from rain and wind.
Wind guard
Side panels that stop wind blowing material off the belt.
Transition section
Zone where the belt changes from flat at the pulley to troughed at the idlers.
Convex curve (crest)
Upward vertical curve; needs a minimum radius to stop the belt lifting off.
Concave curve (sag)
Downward vertical curve; needs a minimum radius to avoid over-stressing the belt edges.
Horizontal curve
Belt path that turns horizontally, usually on a pipe or special idler conveyor.
Loading chute
Chute that guides material onto the belt centre at controlled velocity.
Skirtboard
Vertical board along the loading zone that keeps material on the belt.
Impact cradle
Sprung or cushioned frame that supports the impact bars or idlers.
Spillage tray
Tray under the belt that collects spillage for removal.
Belt scale frame
Instrumented frame that weighs the material on the belt.
Plough support
Frame holding a plough that discharges material to the side.
Tripper
Travelling frame with pulleys that discharges material anywhere along the belt.
Stacker / reclaimer
Machine that stacks or reclaims bulk material at a stockyard.
Transfer point
Junction where one conveyor discharges onto another.
Surge bin
Storage bin that smooths the feed rate to the conveyor.
Apron feeder
Chain-and-pan feeder for heavy, lumpy or hot material ahead of the belt.
Vibrating feeder
Vibratory feeder giving controlled, even discharge onto the belt.
Belt weigher
Instrument that measures the mass flow rate on the belt.
Belt sampler
Device that takes representative samples from the material stream.
Telescopic chute
Extendable chute that lowers material gently into a stockpile or ship.
Ship loader
Machine that loads bulk material into a ship's hold.
Ship unloader
Machine that unloads bulk material from a ship.
Dust suppression enclosure
Enclosure around a transfer that contains dust and noise.
